For the past few summers, Stockyards Ag Experience has employed an intern to assist with tours, social media, and event planning. Meet this Summer’s intern, Gabby Fink.
Early Years
Gabrielle (Gabby) Fink grew up on a farm north of Plankinton South Dakota. On this family farm the Finks run a cow/calf operation with a feedlot. They also produce corn and bale hay. In high school, Gabby was active in golf, Future Career and Community Leaders of Tomorrow (FCCLA), National Honor Society (NHS), and the All-School Play.
Her love for agriculture increased when she started showing cattle and sheep in 4-H when she was eight. 4-H influenced much of her life by holding many positions in her club and being a part of Teen Leadership Academy. In her high school years, Gabby was also involved in the Junior Hereford Association and had the pleasure of writing in the Crop Watchers group of agricultural journalists for the Tri-State Neighbor.
Collegiate Career
Gabby is now an incoming senior at South Dakota State University as an Agricultural Communications major with minors in Legal Studies, Agribusiness Marketing, Professional Writing, and a certificate in Pre-Law with an Environmental/Ag focus.
On campus, Gabby is involved in Collegiate Cattlemen’s Club, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, and she was on the Advertising, Advocacy, and Publicity committee for the 101st Little International where she also showed a sheep. Gabby also serves as Communications Chair for the Student’s Association at SDSU.
Aside from her college involvement, Gabby is also a member of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the American Hereford Association, the South Dakota Corn Growers Association, and the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.
“I’m excited to learn new things about the Sioux Falls Stockyards and to promote the museum and its mission,” says Gabby. “I can’t wait to have discussions about agriculture with the public and to truly be an advocate for the industry through Stockyards Ag Experience.”
